The benefits associated with intermittent fasting include metabolic switching, ketone body production, BDNF production, autophagy induction, and many others. But much of the research on intermittent fasting has been conducted in people or animals with poor health or a sedentary lifestyle, with fewer studies in active, healthy weight people. Even so, Dr. Mattson feels comfortable extrapolating animal data to say that intermittent fasting will likely benefit people with healthy weight. In fact, some clinical studies demonstrate that people who have a healthy weight exhibit better glucose control, insulin, and the ability to accrue and maintain muscle mass with intermittent fasting, although not to the extent observed in overweight people. In this clip, Dr. Mark Mattson predicts that intermittent fasting benefits both overweight and healthy weight people.
