“A medication that boosts the body’s own cannabis-like substances, endocannabinoids, shows promise to help the brain unlearn fear memories when these are no longer meaningful.”
This preliminary trial found that boosting the body’s endocannabinoids by preventing the body from breaking them down was able to help people unlearn fear memories and may hold promise for helping treat PTSD.
This was a very small randomized controlled trial so larger trials need to be done in order to see if this result is repeatable but this is a good first step.
Other lifestyle factors such as exercise have been shown to boost endocannabinoids in people.
